Health & Social Policy (Dumfries Campus)
Crichton Work Placement (Level 3)
Previous teaching will have provided you with a wide range of skills attractive to any employer including the critical evaluation of complex issues, the presentation of structured, logical arguments supporting a viewpoint, both oral and written skills and the production of, and participation in, team based initiatives. The applied, practical approach taken in Health & Social Policy, coupled with experiences gained through the work placement, will equip you with essential qualities for working in public and voluntary health and social organisations.
Examples of previous Crichton Placements include:
- Dumfries and Galloway ‘Active Schools’ programme (developing a ‘virtual’ sports league)
- NHS Dumfries and Galloway ‘Healthy Weight Community’ Initiative (reviewing and developing healthy weight educational materials)
- Dumfries and Galloway Sexual Health Service (gaining insights of young people into the accessibility of sexual health services)
- NHS Dumfries and Galloway Public Health Department (Undertaking ‘social marketing’ research)
- Dumfries & Galloway Council Homeless Service (assessing the health needs of homeless people)
- Department of Social Work (assessing the effectiveness of programmes that support those intending to adopt or foster young people).
