Education entry requirements
Primary Education (BEd)
Highers
- AAB/ABBB including English at B or above. Must have Standard Grade Maths at Grade 1 or 2.
A-levels
- BBB. Must have English Language and Literature at GCSE at C plus GCSE Maths at B or better.
Alternative qualifications and notes
- Intermediate Level 2 is accepted as equivalent to Standard Grade (credit) Maths.
- Irish Highers: AAB/AABB to include English plus Ordinary or Pass Maths B or better.
- Approved Access Courses, eg, SWAP Access to Primary Education.
- Entrance to the course is based on academic qualifications and performance at interview.
- HND Additional Support Needs may be a possible pathway into Year 2 subject to interviews and references. Candidates must also have Higher English or equivalent and Standard Grade Maths or equivalent at Grade 1 or 2.
- Other HND qualifications will admit to first level entry with 50% merits, BBBB in Integrative Assessments or ABB in Graded Units. Candidates must also have Higher English or equivalent and Standard Grade Maths or equivalent at Grade 1 or 2.
Religious & Philosophical Education (MA)
Highers
- AAB/ABBB including English at B or above.
A-levels
- BBB. English Language and Literature at GCSE level grade C or above must be included.
Alternative qualifications and notes
- Irish Highers: AAB/AABB to include English.
- Entrance to the course is based on academic qualifications and performance at interview.
- Normal entry requirements may be relaxed in the case of applicants who are 23 years of age or over and also present evidence which indicates the capacity to pursue the course of study. Applications from mature students are particularly welcome.
Technological Education (BTechEd)
Highers
- AAB/ABBB including English and preferably Maths and a technology or science subject.
A-levels
- BBB including a technology or science subject and preferably including Maths. Plus GCSE English Language and English Literature (Grade A, B or C).
Alternative qualifications and notes
- SQA Modular equivalents in Higher Maths will be considered.
- Applicants are interviewed before an offer is made.
- Non-standard qualifications are accepted; please contact the admissions office (see Entry requirements) for details. Applications from mature students are particularly welcome.
Community Development (BA)
Highers

Alternative qualifications and notes
- Applications are welcome from students without traditional qualifications and who can demonstrate academic ability and potential. Applicants with HNC Working in Communities may be considered for entry to second year. This is a work-based programme and successful applicants will normally be employed in paid or unpaid community work.
