Launch of 2010/11 training programme
Course information is up on the web, including new courses for this year on social enterprise and consultancy skills, following demand.  We expect our online booking system to go live in early October. This gives you the chance to plan your professional development programme carefully and discuss it with your supervisor before signing up to anything.  When the booking form goes live, there will be a link to it from the webpages.  You will be able to use this to manage your own bookings / cancellations and also register interest in courses that have already passed so that we can gauge demand.  Please bear with us while we get it up and running.

Researcher Development Framework launched
This has been developed by Vitae, funding bodies and UK univerisities and replaces the Joint Skills Statement.  It's well worth a look and will help you to evaluate your current skills and experience, collect evidence of them and start working on an action plan for areas you'd like to develop further. Find out about the Researcher Development Framework and download their continuing professional development (CPD) tool here.

Does it ever annoy you how science is portrayed in the media?
Standing up for Science Media workshop, Friday 19th November, Edinburgh
These workshops are for researchers who are passionate about science and want to communicate research to a wider audience.  They combine discussion about science-related controversies in media reporting with practical guidance to help younger scientists make a greater contribution to public debates.  If you would like to participate in this one-day workshop, email Elizabeth Adams with a one paragraph explanation of what you are researching (in lay terms) and what you hope to get out of attendance.
