Assessing and Verifying

Assessor and Internal Verifier Qualifications - Overview

The qualifications in Assessment and Verification were developed by the Employment National Training Organisation. They are nationally recognised certificates of competence for assessors/verifiers and demonstrate that a person is competent to assess SVQs. These certificates are awarded as individual SVQ units.
Universal Training Solutions is a recognised assessment centre registered with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) to deliver A1, A2 and V1 units:

Delivery / Duration

Firstly, candidates must confirm who their SVQ candidates will be, what SVQ they will be doing and whether they are competent to assess in that area of work.
Candidates must understand what a competent assessor or competent internal verifier should do. Universal Training Solutions runs a 1.5-day training course for assessors and a 1-day course for internal verifiers.

Assessment

Once the training is completed candidates must demonstrate that they can carry out the assessor/internal verifier role to the national standards. Candidates need to generate a portfolio of evidence ,by keep records of what they are doing, and provide personal statements to show that they understand their role. In addition, the assessor for the A & V units will observe the candidate carrying out an assessment and may also ask additional questions.
Candidates can access ongoing advice and support from their A & V assessor either by telephone or by e-mail while they are working towards their award.
Candidates present their evidence for assessment in a portfolio and Universal Training Solutions will provide guidance on how this should be compiled. Once the portfolio is completed it is then submitted to the A & V assessor who will inform the candidate whether or not they have met the required standards.
