Driver assessment

Driver Insurance Declaration
Staff or students will not be permitted to drive University Vehicles without first being assessed by Transport Services.  The relevant forms “Ins1 pdf” and “” are available from Transport Services these should be completed by the candidate/Dept Nominee. On the day of the assessment at Transport Services 13 Thurso Street the candidate must bring along both completed forms and their Driving Licence/ID card.
Driving Assessments can be arranged Mon-Fri at 10.30 a.m. for staff.  G.U.S.A Tuesdays, 1.00pm and SRC Thursdays 1.00p.m. (please contact Pauline on ext. 5330 for an appointment)


Pauline will fax the passed assessment form to the candidates department.
Anyone failing the assessment will only be assessed again once a full calendar month has elapsed.


DVLA Regulations

Drivers who first passed their test after 1.1.1997 (further details available on request)
Voluntary Drivers: persons holding only a Category B licence will be able to drive vehicles with up to 16 seats without having to obtain a category D1 licence provided: - they are over 21, have held a full car licence for 2 years, and are not driving for “Hire or Reward”. Holders of Category  B licence are not allowed to tow trailers of any size.


Foreign licences should be sent to Transport Services for clearance before making appointments for testing.

New drivers will not be permitted to drive University vehicles until they have held their licence for 2 years.


Department Heads/Nominees  Should check licences before sending candidates down for assessment.  I must emphasise that candidates who do not bring their licence or completed forms will not be assessed.


Driver Licence Check
In the interest of trying to keep Motor Vehicle Insurance costs under control we have given an obligation to the University Insurers that Driver Licence checks will be carried out at regular intervals. Therefore any staff /students using University vehicles will be asked once a year to produce their licence for checking. 

 
Endorsements
Anyone who has been authorised to drive University Vehicles must notify their Department of any endorsements, and a copy of their licence should be forwarded to Transport Services.
