E-mentoring

E-mentoring is the term we use to describe the role of current students who volunteer to provide information and advice to new and increasingly, prospective students.  We normally take on students at the end of each academic year though we do recruit a small number of students throughout the year.

The role won't take up a lot of your time, as everything is done using e-mail and other forms of online communication (such as Moodle), but it will provide you with a great addition to your C.V.

Student on campusWe look to take on students with the following: -

  • To have successfully completed your first year of study at the University of Glasgow (though students nearing the end of their first year of study are also eligible to apply)
  • Competence in using e-mail and internet technology
  • Good communication skills (especially written)
  • General enthusiasm for Higher Education

Training and ongoing support is provided for all students.

Responsibilities

The list below is a summary of what you'll be expected to do as an E-Mentor;

  • Provide information and advice (via e-mail) on a wide range of issues related to studying at the University of Glasgow to new and prospective students
  • Maintain regular contact with Network co-ordinators
  • Attend training/induction session

Benefits

  • Great experience for your C.V.
  • Improve transferable skills such as communication, time-management  and networking
  • Improve your knowledge of the University

To find out more about how students have benefitted from being involved see our past e-mentor pages.

Application process

We are currently recruiting students undertaking a Postgraduate taught degree.  If you're interested please complete our online application form.

If you're application is successful you'll be invited to attend a training session (normally 2.5-3hrs long).

Other Opportunities

Throughout the academic year you will be invited to participate in various activities (some paid) on campus. An overview of some of these activities can be found on the other opportunities page.
