International students who require a Tier 4 student visa
The UK Border Agency requires the University to take a copy of the passports and visas of all students who have a Tier 4 visa. In addition, the University must tell the UK Border Agency if students holding a Tier 4 visa to study at the University of Glasgow do not register. If you have a Tier 4 visa you will therefore need to attend a Tier 4 Check-In event before you begin your programme (or if you are already in Glasgow and are renewing your visa, as soon as you receive your renewal visa). For instructions about how to 'check-in' please go to www.gla.ac.uk/registry/students/registration/tier4checkin/
Distribution of Student ID Cards for new students
ID cards will be available for collection by new students during orientation week. Details will be published at www.gla.ac.uk/registry/students/registration
Your Student ID card will be invaluable to you throughout your time as a student. Your Student ID card will grant you access to University facilities such as the library and sports facilities and importantly will entitle you to student discount in a wide variety of shops, bars, cinemas and online.
Fully Sponsored students (including SAAS and SLC students)
If you have applied to a public body, for example, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS), a Local Education Authority, Education and Library Board you will be asked to provide your reference number. A reference number is provided by these bodies when you have submitted an application for funding. Please ensure you have submitted an application before you commence financial registration.
If your employer or another organisation is paying your fees you should have a letter from them confirming how much they will pay towards your tuition fees. You will be asked to provide us with an electronic copy of this as part of your financial registration. The university may require to verify this letter before you can complete your financial registration.
If you have not yet applied to a sponsor for assistance with your tuition fees or received notification from them that your application has been successful you will not be able to complete the registration process.
Paying part or all your own fees
If you are paying all of your tuition fees then you must make payment through one of the payment options below before you can complete registration. We regret that cash payments are not accepted.
If your employer or another organisation is paying part of your fees you will be asked to provide us with an electronic copy of this letter during your financial registration. You will not be able to complete financial registration until this letter has been verified and your account updated. Once your account has been updated you can proceed to pay the balance of fees due by one of the payment options below.
The options are as follows:
- pay the entire fee due in full by debit or credit card online through your Financial Account in MyCampus. An administrative fee of around 2% will be charged for Credit Card payments
- set up a direct debit in the financial registration to pay your tuition fees in instalments
Further guidance about payment of tuition fees, including more detailed information on the available options for payment can be found on our website at www.glasgow.ac.uk/services/registry/fees/selffunding. A guide to student finance issues including information on financial support can be found on the University website at www.glasgow.ac.uk/studentfinance.
Payment of SLC student loans
If you are eligible and have applied to the Student Loans Company (SLC) for a loan, we will notify the SLC once you have completed registration, and your first payment will be paid directly into your bank account. Please ensure that you have provided the Student Loans Company with up to date bank details, branch sort code and the number of the account into which the loan is to be paid to enable them to pay your loan. The SLC will make payment of the first instalment of your loan on the official start date of your course (for most students this is the first date of semester one) or normally within three days of the date of your registration if this is after the official start date of your course.
Collection of award cheques
If you are in receipt of an award payable by cheque wait until you have registered and then take your award notice letter and your student ID card to the Student Services Enquiry Team in the Fraser Building.

Enrolment
Colleges and Schools will be responsible for updating and contextualising the enrolment guidance delivered to their students.
Each incoming UG and PGT student will receive an 'Access your Student Account' email which will contain a URL directing the student to a webpage with relevant guidance from their school or college.
Below you will find generic text describing the various approaches to enrolment in MyCampus.
Also below is the enrolment information which will be disseminated to students undertaking the early enrolment pilot in MVLS and Science and Engineering. Please note this text may be updated following pilot student feedback.
Generic Enrolment
Students must enrol on courses and classes through MyCampus. Enrolment will be available to students following successful completion of academic and financial registration. Students will be permitted to enrol, drop enrolments, swap enrolments and switch class sections over the summer and up until the end of the add/drop period on 30 September 2011.
Enrol by My Requirements
MyCampus provides guidance to help you select a suitable curriculum for your Academic Level and Academic Plan. The My Requirements tab describes overall course, grade and credit requirements.
Please note:
- If you want to change your Academic Plan you must speak to your Adviser of Studies before enrolling on courses, as your requirements may be different.
- You are responsible for selecting an appropriate curriculum and enrolling on it in a timely fashion.
- Places in classes will be available on a first-come-first served basis so early enrolment is recommended.
- To ensure that you enrol on appropriate courses select My Requirements and click on Search. This will show you a detailed list of the course enrolments required to successfully complete the year on your chosen Plan. Select the courses into which you wish to enrol. You will then select the classes you wish to attend (e.g. tutorials, lab sessions).
- It is possible to switch class sections or drop/swap courses after you have enrolled up until 30 September 2011.
- Your timetable will be automatically created in MyCampus when you enrol on classes and updated if you change enrolments. Find your timetable in the Enroll tab or directly from your Student Centre.
Support and guidance is available online which can show you how to navigate the enrolment process in MyCampus. This support and guidance material can be found at your MyGlasgow portal at: www.glasgow.ac.uk/students/myglasgow.
Block Enrolment
As your Program <insert appropriate program as applicable> has a fixed curriculum, you will be automatically enrolled on your compulsory courses and allocated to a class section.*
*If it is a partly fixed curriculum then the student should follow the Enrol by My Requirements guidance above to complete enrolment.
Switch Class Sections
After you have enrolled in classes you are still able to make minor changes. MyCampus allows you to switch class sections, if your timetable will permit. This may mean moving the day or time of your class section (e.g. tutorial, lab, seminar). Make these changes by selecting Switch a Class section.
Drop Courses
After you have enrolled on classes you are still able to drop the classes and select another option (drop courses in the Enroll tab) until the end of the Add/Drop period on 30 September 2011. You must be enrolled for the correct number of credits for the year so if you drop a course you should then enrol on an alternative course. You should also have a curriculum which meets your requirements so, if you drop a course, be careful to check that another suitable course is available.
My Timetable
Your timetable will be automatically created in MyCampus when you enrol on classes. If you change any of your enrolments or the times/dates of your classes change your timetable will be updated. Your timetable will show the class, the type of class and the location of the class. Find your timetable in the Enroll tab or directly from your Student Centre.
