Information for students - what the service provides

At the SLS we offer workshops, in-course skills sessions and one-to-one appointments to help you get the most out of your study. The SLS is available to all taught students and we can advise on any academic skills issue throughout your university career. Popular topics include:

  • Essay and report writing
  • Note making
  • Communication skills
  • Exam revision
  • Critical analysis
  • Time management
  • Group work
  • Mathematics and numeracy

You may wish to attend a workshop on one of these or another topic. Alternatively, you may wish to make an appointment with the Effective Learning Adviser for your college or the Maths Adviser.

The SLS does not provide ongoing long-term mentoring, proof reading of essays or advice upon specific subject content. Students seeking advice relating specifically to a disability, including dyslexia, should contact the Disability Service.
