Manual Handling and Backcare

SEPS can arrange two levels of manual handling and back care training courses:

 

Manual handling for low risk environments

This course is intended for those involved in office and other low risk manual handling work activities. Course duration is 2.5 hours and follows a similar syllabus to the course below but with reduced emphasis on manual handling risk assessment and higher risk handling tasks.

 

Manual handling for higher risk environments including risk assessment

This course is intended for those involved in higher risk manual handling work or required to undertake manual handling risk assessment.  This course lasts for 3.5 hours.

Aims

This course is designed to make the participant aware of the need to observe good practise when moving objects within the workplace. The aim of the course is to introduce the delegate to the theory and practise of safe manual handling techniques.

Who should attend?

Manual Handling training is for people at any level and in any sector and allows companies to meet their obligations under the Manual Handling Operations Guidelines.

Course Content 

Introduction to safer manual handling

Health and safety legislation

Structure of the spine and spinal awareness

Common musculo-skeletal injuries

Risk assessment

The principles of good manual handling techniques

Practical session

Certification

Delegates who complete training will receive a certificate of attendance which is valid for 1 year.


Booking a training place

Courses are run at periodic intervals throughout the year to meet demand. Further information on current availability of courses can be obtained by emailing safety@gla.ac.uk

A charge is made on the basis of recovery of costs for places on each of these courses and varies accoring to the type of course and number of people being trained. Indicative cost - £35 per person.
