Enhancement-Led Institutional Review

Enhancement-led institutional review (ELIR) is one of the five main components of the Quality Enhancement Framework (QEF) introduced in Scotland in 2003. The University’s first ELIR was held in 2004 and the second was in November 2009.

ELIR 2009

The confirmed ELIR report was published in April 2010. The report confirms that the panel had confidence in the effectiveness of the University’s management of academic standards, and of the assurance and enhancement of the student learning experience, both currently and in the future. The statement of confidence is the highest of the three standard forms of judgement in the ELIR process. This welcome result reflects the input and co-operation of many colleagues, the Students' Representative Council and other students who met the panel. The University has considered the report’s findings and identified a number of actions to be taken forward. As requested, progress on these actions have been reported back to the QAA one year on from the publication of the report.

ELIR Report 2004

The full report of the 2004 Enhancement-Led Institutional Review of the University of Glasgow is available from the QAA website.

The report indicates that the Review Team had found that 'broad confidence' could be placed in the soundness of University's procedures for the present and likely future management of the quality of its programmes and of the academic standards of its awards'. 'Broad confidence' is the best possible judgment available to the Review Team.

Enhancement-led institutional review handbook: Scotland (Second edition)

The handbook sets out the ELIR process and provides guidance notes on what the RA should address which are set out in Annex 2.
