Annual Monitoring

Why?

Annual Monitoring is an essential element of the University’s Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement processes. Annual monitoring allows Schools, Colleges and the University to assure themselves that the courses and programmes we deliver meet the expectations of staff and students and to continually look for opportunities to develop and enhance provision. A crucial element of Annual Monitoring is closing the feedback loop and ensuring that actions and outcomes are reported to colleagues and students.

The management of Annual Monitoring is devolved to Colleges and is managed locally by School and College Quality Officers.

How?

Conducting a review of Courses and Programmes is the first stage of Annual Monitoring. This is undertaken by the course or programme leader including input from staff and students and reported to the School Quality Officer.  The School Quality Officer reviews the Annual Monitoring Reports (AMRs) and creates a School Annual Monitoring Summary (SAMS). The College Quality Officer reviews the SAMS and creates a College Annual Monitoring Summary (CAMS).

At all stages the reports are reflected on and discussed at relevant committees (Staff-Student Liaison Committees, School Learning &Teaching Committee, College Learning &Teaching Committee and Academic Standards Committee). At each stage actions arising from the reports are ascribed to the relevant party.

School and College Annual Monitoring Summaries are tailored for each College.

Good Practice?

Annual Monitoring is about assuring quality but it’s also about ensuring the University is constantly enhancing its provision. A key element of enhancing our practice is learning from each other.
