Kaufman Awards

Awards as a contribution to fees and/or maintenance may be available from the Kaufman Endowment to assist Jewish students born in the Glasgow area, who have been matriculated at the University of Glasgow for two years, to enable them to continue their studies at the University. In addition, awards may be available to Jewish students born in the Glasgow area entering or studying at the University of Glasgow, who have fallen under adverse circumstances through no fault of their own.

The Trustees will interpret ‘the Glasgow area’ as being the Glasgow postcode area.

Students matriculated for a degree of the University but studying at one of the University’s Associated Institutions are eligible to apply.

It was the benefactor’s wish that students who had benefited from an award under the Scheme should, in later years, when they were in more prosperous circumstances, replenish the Fund in order that other students could benefit in the future.

You should complete the Kaufman Award application form [doc] attached and return it to:

  • obtain a letter from a qualified individual confirming your eligibility to apply for an award as a Jewish student born in the Glasgow area;
  • in the case of adverse circumstances, provide independent evidence of your own or your parents’ income (if they support you);
  • ask one academic referee to supply a reference in support of your application direct to Mrs L Fielding / Mrs C Omand at the above address. Please let your referee have a copy of the notes.

Awards are normally made for one year in the first instance and candidates should therefore re-apply each year.
