Student Transcripts: Publication of Secondary Bands

Key information: the Registry will record students' secondary bands with their primary grades and publish these on academic transcripts.

For whom: Deans, Faculty Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Advisors of Studies.

Summary: EdPSC approved a recommendation that the Registry record students' secondary bands with their primary grades and publish these on academic transcripts.

The aim of recording the secondary bands with the primary grades is to increase the transparency of student performance (an aim of the Code of Assessment), reflecting University marking practice, and this information will be valuable to students and employers.  There has been some concern that publishing secondary bands would remove the opportunity for discretion and lead to an increase in the number of appeals.  However, details of secondary band results are already available to students via Data Subject Access Requests and are provided to students by some departments as a matter of course.
