Students often believe that they are not liable for Council Tax. This is not entirely true as students can and do receive Council Tax bills. As a full-time* student you may be entitled to a discount or exemption from Council Tax; all you have to do is apply!

Apply Today!

  1. Complete the online application form to apply for exemption
  2. Supply proof, by providing one of the following for each student in the household to 45 John Street Glasgow G1 1JE:
  • The registry department of the University can complete the attached Section 2 of our application form, or 
  • You can provide your student exemption certificate that the university can issue to you on request

* For council tax purposes a full–time student is:

  • someone who studies at a college or university in the UK for 21 hours or more per week for a least 24 weeks; or
  • someone who is under 20 years old who studies for 12 hours or more for at least 3 months
