Professor Steve Beaumont, Vice-Principal Research & Enterprise

Picture of Professor Steve BeaumontProfessor Steve Beaumont OBE CEng FREng FRSE took up the post of Vice-Principal for Research & Enterprise at the University of Glasgow on 1 January 2005.

Professor Beaumont is responsible for the University's research strategy, policies, and operational matters including negotiations and relationships with research sponsors and strategic partners.  He also has responsibility for the University’s enterprise activities, including research links with industry and the promotion of spinout companies.

His research background is in nanotechnology and nanoelectronics for which he was awarded the OBE in 2002.  Before taking up his present position he was previously Head of Department of Electronics & Electrical Engineering and most recently Director of the Institute for System Level Integration.

Professor Beaumont is Director of a number of University companies.  He advises the Techmedia Intermediate Technology Institute as a member of its International Advisory Board, and chairs a working party of the Scottish Science Advisory Committee, investigating the strength of research development in Scottish industry.

Professor Beaumont is a Chartered Engineer (CEng).  He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE) in 2000, and more recently (July 2007) a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng).
