Gordon Allan, Database Manager

Gordon's role is the continuous development and maintenance of the various research-related databases used throughout the University, ensuring that the database systems are equal to requirements.

Gordon is also responsible for management reporting from the University's central Research System, and will provide research-related information on request. Note that there are a number of standard reports on research-related information (e.g. numbers & value of applications or awards by College) available at the click of a button on the BI-Query Research Model.

Gordon is a graduate of Paisley University (BSc in Computing Science).

Afshan Maan, Clerical Assistant

Afshan's role is to manage the Department's finances and perform a range of administrative duties.  She is the Departmental Purchasing Officer and liaises with the Finance Office on behalf of R&E.

She also supports the Operations Assistant & provides reception cover when needed.

Afshan is a freelance Make-up Artist.

Valerie McCutcheon, Operations Manager

Valerie's role involves establishing and managing the systems (computer, paper, and people) required to support all of the functions of Research & Enterprise. She works with others within the University including Management Information Systems, Human Resources, and the Finance Office both to develop the core Research System and to ensure R&E's systems are integrated with the University's other core systems.

Valerie combines both relevant experience and training. She has been involved in a wide range of information, data, and records management projects from the oil industry, pharmaceuticals, data capture, and software houses. She has a PgD in Information Systems Management (with Distinction) and is a PRINCE2 (Projects In a Controlled Environment) registered practitioner.

Graeme McNair, IT Support

Graeme is the first point of contact for computing support for all members of R&E.

This role includes replacement or upgrading of computing hardware and software, maintaining the R&E intellectual-property database software, and updating the R&E web pages.

Where appropriate he liaises with Computing Service and US IT on behalf of R&E.
