Marion Anderson, Knowledge Transfer Manager, Innovation Network
Marion joined R&E in May 2007 and is a member of the Innovation Network team, which is working to increase engagement by Scottish companies in innovation, product development and new supply chains. Her role in the team is specifically geared towards helping Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to engage in new supply chains by forming partnerships to help link them with major national and international companies. This also involves increasing the interaction between industry and academia.
Marion came to the University initially as Business Development Manager on the ADS Programme, having spent the previous 4 years working as a Technology Transfer Manager for a government agency. She has extensive experience of assisting SMEs in introducing their technology to new markets, identifying appropriate funding routes and helping them with proposal writing and submission. Marion also has experience in the field of Intellectual Asset Management, having carried out research in this area over a number of years. Prior to this, she spent 10 years working in government research laboratories as an Information Analyst and Project Manager.
Marion has extensive experience in all aspects of project management, from bid preparation to project delivery and sign off, and managed a team of project managers working in the areas of data analysis, technology tracking and technology forecasting. Marion also undertook a number of studies in the areas of Information Management and Knowledge Management and was Publication Editor for the laboratory’s in-house scientific journal.
Marion has a BSc (Hons) in Applied Microbiology and an MSc in Information Science from the University of Strathclyde. She is also a member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM) having successfully attained the Project Management Professional qualification.

Stephen Marshall, Business Development Manager, Innovation Network
Stephen joined Research & Enterprise in October 2002 and is a member of the Innovation Network team, which is working to increase engagement by Scottish companies in innovation, product development and new supply chains. He has specific responsibility for shortening timescales for the development of new products based on academic research through leveraging the product development expertise of Research & Technology Organisations (RTOs) and product design agencies, and by encouraging industry to engage more fully in the proof of concept process.
Stephen came to the University in August 1999 from an earlier career in industrial research and development, where he specialised in the opto-mechanical design and computer software design of 3-dimensional imaging systems.
Stephen is a Chartered Information Systems Engineer (CEng), a Chartered IT Professional (CITP) and is a professional member of the British Computer Society. He has considerable experience of preparing, leading and securing bids for external funding, has extensive project management experience within an R&D environment and has accumulated a broad range of IT skills over more than 20 years. Interests include the history of technology, particularly that of computers and the computer industry.

Jess offers secretarial and co-ordination support to the members of the Research & Enterprise Business Development team. Jess is the 'glue' of the team.

Sylvia Morrison, Director of Incubation Services, Innovation Network
Sylvia is part of the Innovation Network Team. She has many years experience in the life sciences industry and academic research in the field of molecular neurobiology, prior to a number of years as a senior Research & Quality Manager in the NHS. She completed her PhD within the School of Veterinary Medicine's Applied Neurobiology Group studying the molecular events leading to myelination in the peripheral nervous system, and subsequently gained her MBA with the University's Business School.
She is currently the manager of the University's three business incubators, supporting a number of spin-out and start-up companies and providing general business mentoring to several companies in the West of Scotland. She also manages the Innovation Network First Step Awards programme.

Alasdair Street, Business Development Manager
Alasdair joined Research & Enterprise in January 2000, as a Commercialisation Manager with special responsibilities to provide support for the School of Life Sciences. This role has now broadened, and as a Business Development Manager he is focused on maximising return for various project types by the careful management of the University's IP assets. This can include engaging with academics to review IP disclosures and the selection of the most appropriate strategy for protecting and marketing these, to negotiating industrially sponsored contract research, or the negotiation of commercial licence deals, or the creation of sustainable spinout companies.
He combines both relevant business training and life science research experience, having successfully completed a full time MSc in Technology Management at Stirling University; prior to this he had worked extensively in life science research, in several world class laboratories on both sides of the Atlantic. Additionally he has a BSc degree from the University of Strathclyde, and a PhD from the University of London, both in Biochemistry.

Yushin Toda, International Business Liaison Manager (Japan), Innovation Network
Yushin joined R&E in August 2006. As International Business Liaison Manager he is responsible for developing academic and business relations with Asia, the Middle East and Africa in general and with Japan in particular. He co-ordinates the activities of the Europe-Japan Centre from R&E, including the organisation of the Europe-Japan Dialogue public lecture series.
Yushin came to R&E from the School of Law, Business and Social Sciences where he was Administrator of the Europe-Japan Social Science Research Centre from August 1998 until July 2006. After studying at Waseda University and Osaka University of Foreign Studies (now Faculty of Foreign Studies, Osaka University) , with a degree from the latter in Indian Studies, he worked as a staff editor on the Weekly Sankei Journal, Japan, for ten and a half years. He volunteered for UNICEF Ethiopia when the country was hit by famine, and worked as a freelance researcher for the Japanese Ministry of Labor and for the Tokyo Broadcasting System before coming to Glasgow to do Development Studies. He has a Diploma in Development Policy and an MPhil in Agricultural Policy Analysis, both from Glasgow University.
Yushin’s voluntary activities include Japanese Matsuri for Glasgow (a recognised Scottish Charity), which organises Matsuri (a festival in Japanese) in Glasgow twice a year and Taiko (Japanese drumming) Workshops prior to these festivals, and Japan Desk Scotland, which runs Saturday Japanese Classes and A Season of Contemporary Japanese Films. For his University work and his voluntary activities, Yushin was awarded the Japan Society Award in 2005.
