Helpful hint
- If you are thinking of leaving your course, or of changing to a different field of study, the University does provide support. Help can be sought from your College or the Service Desk on Level 2 of the Fraser Building or download a copy of: Thinking of Changing or Leaving Your Course?(pdf)
Changing or leaving course
If you are considering leaving your course, you should discuss this with your Adviser of Studies (or in the case of Medical or Dental students, the Head of the College; in the case of Nursing Students, the Head of School; and in the case of Veterinary Students, the College Director of Student Support Services), supervisor or a student counsellor who may be able to help you decide on your best course of action. Please note that if you decide to withdraw from your programme of study you may not be entitled to a refund of any tuition fees you have already paid and may still be liable to pay a proportion or all of any tuition fees that are due. For more information please see our Refund Policy.
International students who require a visa to study in the UK are strongly advised to consult the International Student Support Team based in the Fraser Building. If you are considering withdrawing from your programme this will have implications for their entitlement to remain in the UK. If you withdraw permanently or temporarily from your studies you will not be studying full-time and as such, no longer fulfil the requirements of the immigration rules as a student. In these circumstances the UK government will expect you to make arrangements to return to your home country as soon as possible. You should not stay in the UK, even if your student visa has not expired. If you remain in the UK you will be in breach of the immigration rules and could be removed from the country. Any future UK immigration applications may be affected. The University is now required to inform the UK Border Agency if you withdraw from your course.
If after discussing your situation you do decide to withdraw, you must let the Registry know so that any refund of fees due may be made to you. To do this please complete a withdrawal form which is available from the Service Desk on Level 2 of the Fraser Building or may be downloaded from the Registry Forms webpage. Please send the completed withdrawal form to:
Registry (Fees Team)
University of Glasgow
G12 8QQ
or fax to +44 (0)141-330-3542
Please also return your student id card to the Registry.
If you decide to re-enter the University following your withdrawal, you should contact the Senior Adviser in your previous College for advice about re-admission.
