How to register: information for new students
Please read this information carefully and complete online registration as soon as possible.
All students are required to register online before starting at the University using the University's student information system, MyCampus. The Registration process allows you to register and confirm your personal, academic and financial information, and confirm that you agree to observe the University Oath, regulations and requirements. Once registration is complete you will have become a fully registered student at the University of Glasgow.
Getting Started:
- You should have received an 'Access to your Student Account' email containing your Glasgow Unique IDentifier (GUID), temporary password, details of how to access your student account, as well as links to support and guidance materials and contacts. If you have not yet received this email please contact mycampushelp@glasgow.ac.uk. Please include your full name and GUID (if known) in the email to ensure we can deal with your enquiry swiftly
- Access MyCampus at www.glasgow.ac.uk/students/myglasgow
- Complete both stages of registration:
- Stage 1 Academic Registration: You will need to check your degree programme details are correct, update personal information, ensuring email and postal addresses are current, and upload a digital, passport-style photograph to be used on your Student ID card.
- Stage 2 Financial Registration: You will need to provide details about how you will pay your tuition fees. Financial Registration requires you to
- pay your fees in full, or;
- complete a Direct Debit agreement to pay your fees in instalments, or;
- provide details of an external sponsor or scholarship (including SAAS or SLC) who will pay fees on your behalf. You may be required to upload a digital copy of your sponsor’s award letter into MyCampus.
If you have not yet applied for your fee sponsorship please do so now. You cannot register without this.
You will not be able to enrol in classes until you have completed academic and financial registration.
For International Students: although we would encourage you to arrange payment of your fees as soon as possible, we realise that you may not be able to do so before you come to Glasgow. We would like to reassure you that you will be able to arrange payment once you arrive here if you have been unable to do so in advance. If this applies to you and so that we can allow you to progress with enrolment onto your classes before you come to Glasgow please ensure that you have completed academic registration and then email mycampusfinances@glasgow.ac.uk to confirm that you will pay your fees before your programme of study starts. Support will be available during Freshers Week/ Induction to help you complete the payment process. Please note that in addition to on-line payment by credit or debit card via MyCampus it is possible to arrange payment by cheque or bank draft, bank giro or bank transfer. Cash payments are not accepted for payment of tuition fees. Details can be found at http://www.gla.ac.uk/scholarships/fees/selffunding/
Students studying at the Singapore Institute of Technology: your fee payment will be managed by the Institute locally and you will not be required to complete Financial Registration as part of the online registration process in MyCampus.
International students who require a Tier 4 student visa
The UK Border Agency requires the University to take a copy of the passports and visas of all students who have a Tier 4 visa. In addition, the University must tell the UK Border Agency if students holding a Tier 4 visa to study at the University of Glasgow do not register. If you have a Tier 4 visa you will therefore need to attend a Tier 4 Check-In event before you begin your programme (or if you are already in Glasgow and are renewing your visa, as soon as you receive your renewal visa). For instructions about how to 'check-in' please go to www.gla.ac.uk/registry/students/registration/tier4checkin/
Distribution of Student ID Cards for new students
ID cards will be available for collection by new students during orientation week. Further information is published at ID cards for new students
Your Student ID card will be invaluable to you throughout your time as a student. Your Student ID card will grant you access to University facilities such as the library and sports facilities and importantly will entitle you to student discount in a wide variety of shops, bars, cinemas and online.
Fully Sponsored students (including SAAS and SLC students)
If you have applied to a public body, for example, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS), a Local Education Authority, Education and Library Board you will be asked to provide your reference number. A reference number is provided by these bodies when you have submitted an application for funding. Please ensure you have submitted an application before you commence financial registration.
If your employer or another organisation is paying your fees you should have a letter from them confirming how much they will pay towards your tuition fees. You will be asked to provide us with an electronic copy of this as part of your financial registration. The university may require to verify this letter before you can complete your financial registration.
If you have not yet applied to a sponsor for assistance with your tuition fees or received notification from them that your application has been successful you will not be able to complete the registration process.
Paying part or all your own fees
If you are paying all of your tuition fees then you must make payment through one of the payment options below before you can complete registration. We regret that cash payments are not accepted.
If your employer or another organisation is paying part of your fees you will be asked to provide us with an electronic copy of this letter during your financial registration. You will not be able to complete financial registration until this letter has been verified and your account updated. Once your account has been updated you can proceed to pay the balance of fees due by one of the payment options below.
The options are as follows:
- pay the entire fee due in full by debit or credit card online through your Financial Account in MyCampus. An administrative fee of 1.5% will be charged for credit card payments
- set up a direct debit in the financial registration to pay your tuition fees in instalments
Further guidance about payment of tuition fees, including more detailed information on the available options for payment can be found on our website at www.gla.ac.uk/scholarships/fees/.
A guide to student finance issues including information on financial support can be found on the University website at www.glasgow.ac.uk/studentfinance.
Payment of SLC student loans
If you are eligible and have applied to the Student Loans Company (SLC) for a loan, we will notify the SLC once you have completed registration, and your first payment will be paid directly into your bank account. Please ensure that you have provided the Student Loans Company with up to date bank details, branch sort code and the number of the account into which the loan is to be paid to enable them to pay your loan. The SLC will make payment of the first instalment of your loan on the official start date of your course (for most students this is the first date of semester one) or normally within three days of the date of your registration if this is after the official start date of your course.
Collection of award cheques
If you are in receipt of an award payable by cheque wait until you have registered and then take your award notice letter and your student ID card to the Student Services Enquiry Team in the Fraser Building.
