UNIVERSITY of GLASGOW

Registry

Graduation

The University holds its main graduation ceremonies in summer and winter each year at which students may elect to have their degree conferred in person or in absentia.   There is also an opportunity for students, who are qualified, to graduate in April each year when degrees are conferred in absentia only.  There is no graduation ceremony in April.  If you graduate in absentia you cannot attend a graduation ceremony in person at a later date.

It is a statutory requirement that those who graduate for the first time from the University must enrol as members of the General Council of the University and pay the General Council Registration Fee.   This requirement is set out in Regulation XII "Graduation and General Council Membership" of the "University Fees and General Information for Students" section of the University Calendar.

University regulations do not permit students who have debts to the University to enrol for graduation or graduate until the debt has been paid.   You should ensure that you have paid all outstanding debts (including tuition fees, bench fees, accommodation charges, library fines) before you enrol.

Graduation Photography (additional session)

If you are unable to attend your graduation ceremony or simply wish to avoid queuing on the day of your graduation then you can take advantage of the additional photography session offered by Ede & Ravenscroft (the official photographer of the university).  Gowns and hoods will be provided free of charge.  This session will take place in the Concert Hall Foyer in the Main Building between 10.00am and 4.00pm on 6th and 7th August.

Graduation Summer 2012

Graduation enrolment for summer 2012 is now closed.

If you are attending your graduation, please order your academic gown as soon as possible from www.gownhire.co.uk as this website will close approximately 21 days before the graduation ceremonies start.

For more information on your graduation day, please download and retain our Graduation Day Guide.  The summer 2012 graduation timetable is located at the resource link on the top right hand side of this page.

Change to Enrolment Status

After you enrol to graduate, it is important that you notify us of any changes which will affect your enrolment status or ability to graduate.  Complete and return the Graduation Enrolment Update Form to us as soon as possible.

If you enrol to attend your graduation ceremony and fail to turn up on the day without prior notification to the Graduation Team, your graduation will be treated as in-absentia.  Your degree parchment will be posted to your home address, or if you have not enrolled online, to the address on your graduation enrolment form, approximately 7-10 working days after your graduation ceremony.  If you graduate in-absentia, you cannot attend a graduation ceremony for this degree at a later date.

Graduation Winter 2012

The Winter 2012 Graduation Timetable is located at the resource link on the top right hand side of this page.  Details on how to enrol to graduate in winter 2012 will be available here by mid September.
