Gown hire
At the graduation ceremonies graduands, whether or not already graduates, must wear the gown and carry the hood appropriate to the degree which they are to receive (hats are not worn at graduation ceremonies).The University does not provide gowns and hoods. Gowns and hoods may be hired from Ede & Ravenscroft Ltd, the University's official robe makers. You should ensure you hire your robes as soon as possible (and not later than three weeks before the ceremony). You do not need to wait until you have enrolled for graduation to order your robes.
Order your official graduation outfit on-line at www.gownhire.co.uk. Before you start, make sure you know your chest and height measurements and have your credit/debit card details available. Print out your order confirmation and take it with you when you collect your outfit on the day of your ceremony. If you do not have access to a computer, please telephone the Ede & Ravenscroft call centre on 01223 861854. Operating hours 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday. Calls may be recorded for staff training. Facilities for the deaf or hard of hearing or those with a speech impairment are available using Textphone - dial 18001 01223 861854 to access the RNID Typetalk system.
Dress code
At graduation ceremonies male graduands are expected to wear a dark suit, with a white shirt and black tie; black shoes. Female graduands are expected to wear a dark skirt or trousers and white blouse (tie, if worn, black) or a white or dark dress; black shoes. If you wish, recognised national dress (including the kilt, with dark jacket and plain hose) may be worn.
