Certifying letters

At various stages throughout your studies it may be necessary to obtain formal certification of your status as a student at the University. In situations where your student ID card is insufficient evidence, or documentary evidence is required, e.g. visa extensions, students can apply  for a letter which will state their course of study and other relevant information.

What information will a Certifying Letter contain?

  • Your student number
  • Your name
  • The name and duration of your course, current year of study and mode of attendance
Please note we are only able to include information that can be verified from University records.

How much will a certifying letter cost?

  • Currently registered students - No charge.
  • Former students and graduates - £10.00 for first copy plus £1.00 for each additional copy.
We regret that certifying letters cannot be issued until payment, if appropriate, has been received. Please make cheques in £ sterling payable to: "University of Glasgow".

How can I apply for a certifying letter ?

You may download and print a certifying letter application from the Registry Forms webpage. Please send the completed certifying letter application, together with payment if appropriate, to:

Student Services Enquiry Team, Fraser Building
