FAQs: Exams

Q. What should I do if I am unwell and cannot attend an examination?
A. The University has a new Student Absence Policy.  Instructions on what to do can be found in the Student Absence Policy.  The policy covers attendance requirements and procedures for reporting absences, whether they are for personal reasons or sickness.

Q. How can I find out my exam results?
A. Results cannot be given out over the phone or by email.  An automated e-mail will be issued to your student e-mail account from MyCampus with your exam results as soon as they become available. Results will also be published on your MyCampus record.

Q. Can you send me written confirmation of my exam results?
A. We no longer issue a written confirmation of your exam results. Exam results can be found via MyCampus.

Q. Why are my exam results showing as 'ZZ'?
A. Do you have a fee debt when you check your record in MyCampus? If so this must be cleared before examination results are published.

Q. How do I enrol for a resit?
A. You must enrol for resits online on the Examinations section of the Registry website. The enrolment form will be available from the beginning of June 2012 and you must enrol by Friday 22nd June 2012.

Q. Can I take my resit/s overseas?
A. Yes, you may be able to do so if the country in which you want to sit your exams is your home country, if your School agrees to the arrangement and a suitable venue can be found. To register for an overseas resit email the Exams Team at reg.exams@admin.gla.ac.uk as soon as possible and no later than Friday 22nd June 2012. We regret that any requests for overseas resits recieved after this date cannot be met. In your email please include your student number, your name, address, exam/s you wish to be enrolled for and the country in which you want to take your exams. We will make all necessary arrangements for you and let you know of these arrangements. The venue will normally be a British Council Centre in the country of residence. Where one does not exist, an arrangement may be made with a partner institution of the University of Glasgow in the country of residence. Failing this, you must travel to the nearest British Council or return to the University of Glasgow to take the Examination. The cost for sitting an exam overseas for session 2011/12 is £50 per exam. Note that the overseas venue may also charge a fee.

Q. I do not live overseas but want to take my resit/s outwith the University of Glasgow - can I do this?
A. No, this is not usually permitted. However, if there are exceptional circumstances for your request, you would need to discuss this with your Head of School, who would then need to apply for permission from the Clerk of Senate on your behalf. If you get agreement from both these parties, we will make the necessary arrangements regarding exam papers. However you must arrange a venue in which to sit the exam, as per the rules for the appropriate venues above, and let us know of the venue and the name and phone number/fax number/email address of a contact. The cost of sitting outwith the University of Glasgow for session 2011/12 is £50 per exam. These arrangments must be made by the last day of the resit enrolment period.

Q. I was unwell during my first diet exams - do I need to enrol to sit my exams in the resit diet?
A. If you received a result of MV (approved absence) for your December or April/May exams, you are still required to enrol in the normal resit enrolment period.

Q. What do I do if I require special arrangements in exams?
A. Any student requiring special arrangements in examinations in relation to an ongoing disability must inform the Student Disability Service and provide written evidence to support any requests by the following deadlines:

  • TBC for the December diet of degree exams.
  • TBC for the April/May diet of degree exams.

It is advisable for students to comply with these dates to ensure that there is adequate time to make arrangements. If the disability is a temporary one e.g. a broken arm, the Clerk of Senate should be notified by the Head of School as soon as he or she becomes aware of the problem.  All arrangements for students with temporary disabilities must be approved by the Clerk of Senate.  The remit of the Disability Service does not extend to students with a temporary disability.

Q. How can I find out the date/time/location of my exam?
A. Timetables are available on the Examinations Team website. We are not able to give out examination timetable information over the telephone.
