Kelvin Smith Scholar Event - 18 November 2013

Join us for this year's Kelvin Smith researcher celebration!

This is a fun way to find out about some of the exciting interdisciplinary research projects being carried out by Kelvin Smith researchers across the University. Following on from the success of last year's event, this year's presentations will be done in the fast-paced 'Pecha Kucha' format.  Designed as an end to 'death by powerpoint', Pecha Kucha (meaning 'chit-chat' in Japanese) ensures that presentations are lively and highly visual.   The rules are simple: each presentation has 20 slides, each of which is displayed for just 20 seconds, meaning the presenter has to complete their presentation in 6 minutes 40 seconds.

Hosted by Prof Steve Beaumont (VP for Research and Enterprise), the event will also include poster presentations from the scholars and will be followed by a wine reception, where you can chat informally to presenters.

Our scholars are presenting on a wide variety of subjects and we welcome guests from around the University and further afield.

‌Everyone is welcome to attend.

Pecha Kucha style events now take place all over the world and the format has been used in the UK by well known celebrities such as Johnny Vegas, Joanna Lumley and Jon Snow.  Pecha Kucha is highly visual, which helps to avoid common presentation pitfalls like reading from slides or trying to cram in too much information.
