ESRC Pathway Studentships 2013

DOWNLOAD THIS GUIDANCE: 2013 Nomination Process for Students

An initial application and selection process takes place at institution Pathway level between November 2012 and February 2013.  Each Pathway representative at Glasgow may nominate up to 6 students for further consideration by the Pathway committee.  Only these nominated students may register via the online ESRC DTC portal by 22 Feb 2013.

After registration by 22 February 2013, nominated students must upload their final ESRC application via the online ESRC DTC portal by 8 March 2013.

You must be nominated by the Glasgow Pathway Representative to access the online ESRC DTC portal

Glasgow Pathway Nomination - Application Deadline: 4 February 2013

Two applications must be submitted in parallel to be considered for an ESRC Studentship:

  1. Online application for Postgraduate study at University of Glasgow (visitĀ theĀ postgraduate application pages for full information)
  2. ESRC studentship application pack (details and forms below) to the relevant pathway representative at Glasgow.

ESRC studentship application pack* includes:

  • Completed Pathway Cover Sheet 2013;
  • Research Proposal (download template from SGS-DTC website);
  • Abstract – 4000 characters max;
  • Up to date CV;
  • Degree transcripts (translated, if not originally in English) – a provisional transcript is sufficient;
  • Supporting statement from prospective supervisor*;
  • Two written references;
  • [AQM only] Completed AQM Application Form (excludes Economics). (Please note an earlier version of the AQM form showed a date of 28 January.  This is incorrect - the date is 4 February as with the other documentation.)

*It is possible for the proposed supervisor to also be a referee.  The Supervisor statement must be a separate document from the reference letter.  Please refer to the SGS-DTC guidance note on Supervisor’s Statements for details about the information that should be included: Guidance Notes for Supervisor Statement

* Please note that the SGSS documents may refer to the DTC deadline (8 March) rather than the GU deadline (4 February).  All documents listed above need to be submitted to GU as noted for the 4 February deadline.  The DTC deadline is only relevant if your application is selected by your pathway to be put forward to theh DTC - of which you will be advised in due course.

If you are applying for a 1+3 award (Masters + PhD), please make sure to confirm with the relevant pathway representative before making your application for an MRes programme to ensure that you are applying to the correct programme.

Application Deadline 4 February 2013

Submit the ESRC application pack in electronic format only to the appropriate Pathway Representative by 4 February 2013.  Also ensure you have completed an online application for study at Glasgow.

You may apply to more than one pathway, however you may NOT apply to more than one institution.  Should you wish to apply to more than one pathway you must submit a separate ESRC application pack for each pathway application.  However, you need only submit one online application for study at Glasgow.

As applications need to be checked for eligibility and supported by a potential supervisor, we strongly encourage you to make contact with your chosen Glasgow pathway representative as soon as possible, and well in advance of the final deadline.  Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Pathway members at Glasgow will review all applications and inform candidates of the outcome no later than 13 February 2013.  If successful, students will be asked to register via the ESRC DTC Online Portal by 22 February 2013.

Should you have any questions about the application process, please contact your Glasgow pathway representative in the first instance.

ONLY NOMINATED STUDENTS MAY REGISTER ON THE ESRC DTC PORTAL.
