Planning and Business Intelligence is part of University Services at the University of Glasgow.

Our major areas of work are as follows:

Strategy and Planning

• Providing appropriate and timely management information to allow University Management and the University community to make informed decisions which support the University’s Strategic Plan
• Maintaining an effective working relationship with the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) as well as providing statutory student data to these bodies.
• Setting admissions targets in adherence with changing policies and rules.
• Providing appropriate advice so that the University can effectively influence policy in Higher Education.

Data Quality

• Actively pursuing the goal of improved data quality, initially targeting the student data held in MyCampus.
• Ensuring the highest possible standard for our statutory returns data.
• Identifying problem areas and designing and implementing solutions for improvements.
• Ensuring consistency amongst the different corporate datasets and promoting good communication amongst stakeholders. 
• Tackling duplication of data – identifying the master source for each piece of data.

Business Intelligence

• Providing intelligence behind the data for the University and external audiences. 
• Monitoring the University’s performance against targets.
• Supplying timely and accurate information to Colleges that allow for informed decision making to provide the University with a competitive advantage.
