Research Outcomes Reporting
Research Outcomes Reporting
There is now a way to record information about knowledge exchange and impact. See http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/rsio/knowledgeexchange/capture/
Every year, Research Councils UK, Cancer Research UK and several other UK funders contact staff, students, and supervisors with past or present grants or studentships to ask them to provide ‘research outcomes’. Examples of research outcomes are:
- details of collaborations,
- public engagement activities,
- development of medical, technical and artistic products,
- examples of policy influence,
- use of shared facilities and
- (for students) any placements or internships.
These funders use a system called Researchfish to collect this information. Some funders require all award holders to participate, others make a selection. If you are required to participate, you will receive an email asking you to register to use the Researchfish system. Outcomes information can be updated at any time after registration. However, each funder will set a submission period when you must log in to the Researchfish system and:
- check that the research outputs listed are complete
- add additional outputs
- press the submit button
It is possible to make a nil return declaration, for example if your award has only just started.
For RCUK the submission period will be from 6 February to 16 March 2017. Non-compliant PIs will lose eligibility to be a PI or Co-I on further awards from any Research Council and any current awards will have their payments withheld until such time as the PI becomes compliant. Sanctions will not apply to students.
The Library has bulk uploaded publications that were in Enlgihten and linked to relevant awards to Researchfish. This was a controlled pilot with ResearchFish to include publications added to Enlighten until 18th January 2017.
You can delegate the library to enter publications on your behalf. To use this service please choose to delegate 'firstname.lastname@example.org' within ResearchFish by 28th February 2017. We will then add any publications that are not already on ResearchFish but are on Enlighten with a relevant award. We will email you to confirm when we have done this so that you can 'submit' your return as only the award holder can hit the 'submit' button.
Please continue to ensure that your publications are on Enlighten with attributions to the relevant awards.
The library can help. Please do contact us on email@example.com e.g. if:
- you receive an email and do not know anything at all about the award;
- you want to ask for an exemption to making a return e.g. because of long-term sickness leave;
- you have any other questions the University of Glasgow’s approach to this exercise
