Photocopying - everything you need to know!
Self-service photocopying
Self-service photocopying facilities are available at the following locations:
- University Library (Level 2, in the room opposite the Welcome Desk)
- Adam Smith Library
- James Ireland Library (Dental School)
- James Heriot Library (Veterninary School)
- Law Workshop (Stair Building)
Photocopying cards can be purchased from the University Library (Level 2, in the room opposite the Welcome Desk), the Adam Smith, James Herriot and James Ireland libraries.

High value cards (250 units, £13), can be purchased in person at the Library Services desk. If your department would like to pay for your high value card, you can submit a form to the Operational Support Service. Forms are available at: Photocopying Charge Card Requisition Form.

What may I copy and what about copyright?
There are strict limits to what you may legally copy. Copying is permitted for research or private study, and the maximum allowed is a single copy of up to one article from any one issue of a journal, or up to 5% or one chapter of a book.
Copying for commercial purposes require copyright stickers (£12 per article) which are available on request from the Welcome Desk, Level 2, University Library.
Staffed Photocopying Service - PG Students Only
What is it?
We can provide copies of materials held in the Library which are needed for research or study. To use this service your Department must have set up a direct debit with the Library - Registration for Direct Debit of Library Photocopy Transactions Form - and your name must appear on the Departments list of permitted users.
How much does it cost?
The cost is 10p per sheet copied, unless the copy is made from microfilm or microfiche when the cost is 40p (A4) and 50p (A3).
Copy of entire thesis - £45* (post to UK), £65* (post abroad).
Whole theses will only be copied when the item is unavailable from EThOS.

How long does it take?
Turnaround time is normally two working days from receipt of request.
