Keeping up to date

It is important that you stay up to date with new developments in your subject. There are many different ways of doing this and we’re just pointing you towards some common ones below.

Most official bodies and organisations, publishers and databases offer different ways of alerting you to new developments by sending or ‘feeding’ you information.

Common tools are e-mail, RSS feeds (using an aggregator) and social media such as Twitter.

To stay up to date monitor:

  • Saved searches on databases. When the database is updated it runs your saved search and alerts you to new items of information that match your search terms
  • New issues of journals
  • Blog posts and Tweets from experts, publishers, research groups or enthusiasts within your field
  • Press releases from official or professional bodies
