Spotlight On... GUID
Your GUID and associated password has replaced the Athens username and password for access to many e-journals, e-books and databases. Using your GUID will reduce the number of user-ids and passwords you have to remember.
You can no longer use your Athens username and password to access electronic resources; although you may still see an ATHENS link on a database, e-journal or e-book page, this will no longer work for Glasgow users.
Students will already have a GUID & password - your GUID is your registration / matriculation number followed by the first letter of your surname. Your password is the one you use to log into Moodle, Websurf, webmail etc. Read more about GUID for students.
Staff must register for a GUID associated password. Read more about GUID for staff.
You may have to scan the web page to find the GUID login link, which may be referred to by any of the following terms. [Note: the central login option is often a publisher specific login link and not the GUID login option].
- Institutional login
- UK FAM
- Federated Access Management
- Remote Organization
- Shibboleth
Select the University of Glasgow as your location and you will then be taken to our local GUID login page. You will only need to login with your GUID once during any web browser session so it will be easy to access a range of different resources.
If you have difficulty logging in with your GUID:
- From the browser Tools option, clear your cache and delete any cookies
- Ensure you are linking via the Library website rather than a previously bookmarked page
See Accessing E-journals, E-Books and Databases for more information.
