PCs, WiFi, Printers and Laptops
The Library has over 800 PCs you can use, to check your emails, write up your essays, browse the web etc. You can print from any of the PCs by buying print credits - currently there are machines on Level 2 where you can do this. The building is fully wireless enabled, so you can use your laptop to access the internet.
In this section you can find information on how to use Library PCs and WiFi - use the navigation on the left of the screen to access information you need.
Full instructions on how to connect to the wireless network across campus can be found on the IT Services page, "Connecting to the wireless network", http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/it/wireless/
If you have any problems please go to the Student IT Helpdesk located on Level 3 in the Library, or use one of internal phones to call ext 6921
Username
Student computers now use your GUID credentials to login. Your GUID is composed of your student number and the initial of your surname:
e.g. 1000036A (student number + surname initial)
If you cannot login, click the “Options” button and ensure that “Log on to” is set to “CAMPUS”.
Password
Your password is initially set to your date of birth in the format YYMMDD:
e.g. 13th June 1989 = 890613
You MUST change this password, as it will expire - go to Password Self Service to change your password.
After you have changed your password, click "Password Challenge Response" (at the top-left of the page). Fill out the answers as requested, then if you forget your password in future, you can click the "Forgotten Password" link on the login screen, to retrieve your password.
Your GUID is also used for access to WebSURF, VPN, Moodle, and email – if you change the password on one system, it changes on ALL systems.
Need help?
If you need help please go to the Student IT Helpdesk located on Level 3 in the Library, or use one of internal phones to call ext 6921.
Buying credit?
- You can buy credits online using a credit/debit card through your MyPrinting print credit account - see the IT Services advice on ePayment for printing on CSCE cluster machines
- You can buy print credits on level 2 of the Main Library; opposite the Welcome Desk.
- Machines accept £1 coins and notes. They do not give any change, so please do not add more credit than you need. There is a change machine next to the kiosks.
- IMPORTANT: To login, use your normal username with the initial in CAPITALS/UPPERCASE: 1022464F
You will be prompted for a PIN; unless you have changed it, it will be: 1234
How much does it cost?
- 5p for an A4 black and white sheet
- 7p for a duplex sheet (double-sided printing)
- 50p for an A4 colour sheet, 96p for colour duplex (note - a job containing even a single page of colour will charge these prices for the whole document).
Where are the printers?
- Colour printer: Located on level 4 – all PCs in the Library and Reading Room can print to the colour printer. (The printer is called “SC-Lib-Colour”)
- Black and White Printers: Located on levels 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 and one in the Reading Room
Which printer do I use?
The printer names all contain “LIBX” – where “X” is the floor where the printer is located. The default printer will be the closest mono printer to your computer. On levels 3 and 4 there is a 3B and 4B, as there are two printers on these levels – make sure you check which one you have selected.
How can I check my print credit?
- Go to http://myprinting.gla.ac.uk, or, if you are on campus, use the link on the desktop - this will log you in automatically if you use Internet Explorer. If off campus, you will need to enter your username prefixed by: campus\
What if I have problems printing?
Check that you have enough credit to print. If you do and your job still is not printing, please go to the Student IT Helpdesk located on Level 3 in the Library, or use one of internal phones to call ext 6921.
