Asking impromptu questions

If you want a quick way to ask questions follow the steps below after setting up the class.

Choose "Collect Responses".

Start up software splash

In the pop up box (see below) give it a name and choose the name of the class that you set up. We will leave the lesson type as "Impromptu".

Collect responce

Impromptu allows you to set up single questions.

You will get the screen below.

Impromptu options

The best types of questions to use with the green handsets are multiple choice and true/false (select these from the "question type" dropdown menu).

You will need to choose the number of choices, whether there are numbers or letters, how many chances students have to get it right, how long the student has to answer and most importantly what the correct answer is.

You will now get the toolbar below appearing on your screen. The size of this toolbar allows you to keep other applications such as PowerPoint on the screen at the same time.

Main EVS toolbar

You are now ready to get your students to register their clickers (you will only need to do this once per session).

This is a basic hand set for the radio system To register a handset with the system you will need to firstly turn it on. Then type in the two digit number (in this case 23). You will notice that the green light that is rapidly flashing rapidly beside the send and receive icon (double arrow) is now flashing slowly. Pressing any number on the keypad will register on the central column.

Box showing no of registered clickers   The box at the far right of the toolbar will let you know how many handsets are registered.
Timer on bar  To start the question click the green arrow. To add or reduce time use the plus and minus signs. To stop the question use the square icon (this will end the question).
Timer tool bar  While the question is running you will be able to see how many students have voted by the number to the right of the plus icon. Also note that when the question is running it is possible to pause it by using the yellow pause icon.

As soon as the question is finished the below screen will appear giving the question results (green for correct and red for incorrect). You need to close this screen before you can do anything else.

You have the option to run the question again by pressing the green play button or by exiting the toolbar. You have the options below. The first one allows you to set up a new question and the second allows you to disconnect all handsets and takes you back to the main menu where you can exit completely.
