By the end of this course, users will know how to select information from tables in a database and produce their own lists and reports by:

  • Creating Queries using one or more tables
  • Qualifying Queries
  • Save a Query
  • Load a Query
  • Using Functions
  • Produce Reports
  • Creating Subtotals in a Report
  • Creating Grand Totals in a Report
  • Creating Calculated Columns in a Report
  • Create Executive Buttons
  • Export Results to another Application, e.g. Excel, Word
  • Mail Merging BI/Query results

After attending this course, users should then attend a specific BI/Query Data Model course relating to the actual database that they will be using, e.g. Student Records, Human Resources, UG Admissions, Direct Admissions (DAS), Research.

This course is suitable for any member of staff who is required to use the Direct Admissions BI/Query model. The course explores the main data objectives in the model for the Direct Admissions System and includes a number of practical exercises that demonstrates the topics covered.

Learning objectives:

  • Building queries using the model
  • Using query results to produce a mailing list
  • Combining query results to calculate the number of applications and enquires made by an applicant

Basic Bi/Query training and familiarity with the Direct Admissions system web application required

Learning Objectives:

  • To provide a description of the student records data model
  • To provide an overview of the student data from pre registration through to graduation.
  • To give basic knowledge of important student data e.g. identify a currently matriculated student
  • To provide users with an opportunity to have any queries on the use of the model answered

Prerequisites:  Attendance of Basic BI/Query course.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand what data is captured and can be queried in the Model with regard to research applications and awards and their funding
  • To gain practical experience with the model
  • To become familiar with the pre-defined queries which are delivered with the Model and to learn how to modify them to suit your own requirements

Attendees are expected to have attended a Basic BI/Query course.

Attendees must have gained authorisation to use the model.
