Further information
VPN is used at University of Glasgow to ensure a secure, encrypted connection to the Flexible network access service using your existing internet service provider or if on campus the University network.
When you have connected to your ISP and started the VPN client, a secure 'tunnel' is created between your computer and the University network. The client directs data for the University along this secure tunnel.
VPN may be required to access some electronic resources, such as e-journals, from off-campus.
The VPN service is NOT an alternative to your ISP. You must have a connection to your service provider before you start the VPN connection. VPN can only be used to access Glasgow University sites. The connection speed is only as fast the connection to your ISP.
