Mac Mail, iCal and Address Book not able to access data from campus domain Exchange 2007 mailboxes.

Explanation

Some users of Mac Mail, iCal and Address Book applications are encountering problems accessing campus domain Exchange 2007 mailbox data as a result of the introduction of Exchange 2010 into the campus domain. It had been anticipated that Mac Mail, iCal and Address Book configurations would be automatically updated by the Exchange Autodiscover feature of the applications however this does not happen. Current versions of Mac Mail, iCal and Address Book do not correctly implement Exchange Autodiscover and only perform an Autodiscovery when an account is first configured.

Solution

Users of Mac Mail, iCal and Address Book should change the internal server and external server configuration entries in each of the relevant applications from
mail.campus.gla.ac.uk to legacy.campus.gla.ac.uk.
The problem only manifests itself with existing configurations of Mac Mail, iCal and Address Book and not the Mac Mail configured to access the Exchange system using IMAP.

IMAP clients unable to access Exchange 2007 mailboxes

Explanation

The introduction of Exchange 2010 into the campus domain has resulted in some instances of IMAP clients with the IMAP authentication method not set to "Normal password", "Password" or the IMAP client's equivalent value, not being able to access Exchange 2007 mailboxes because of the way that Exchange 2010 proxies IMAP sessions to the Exchange 2007 IMAP servers.

Solution

Changing the IMAP client's authentication method to "Normal password", "Password" or the equivalent value should allow the IMAP client to connect to the mailbox
