Misuse of University Cluster PCs in Main Library / Reading Room
The regulations on use of IT in the University are at: http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/it/regulations and reminder notices on workstation use are displayed throughout the Library and Reading Room
The purposes of these regulations in relation to cluster PCs include:
- maximising availability of the PCs for students’ course work
- safeguarding students’ work and information
- protection of the University’s network, systems and information
- avoidance of offence to other members of the University community
Any person found apparently infringing the rules will be asked to cease the infringement and to provide his/her registration number (or name and library access card if not a GU student). The number or name will be held on file by IT Services with date of occurrence and type of infringement. The record will be deleted after 6 months.
The person may ask to see any record pertaining to him/herself and if they believe it to be inaccurate may ask the Student Computing Facilities Manager to have it amended or deleted. If agreement is not reached the matter may be escalated to the Director of the Computing Service.
The person may be reported to IT Services management and/or library attendant staff for possible disciplinary action in the case of:
- certain types of infringement or
- repeated infringement or
- refusal to comply with the request to stop the infringement
Disciplinary actions may range from admonition to suspension of IT facilities and/or referral to outside agencies.
