Leaving UofG?

We hope you enjoyed your time here at the University. Please stay in touch (see below).

If you left the University in winter 2023

Your student IT account will close on Wednesday 10 April 2024.

Please make copies of your files and other content on University systems and save these safely somewhere else before your account closes.

From these dates you will no longer have access to University digital services including your University email account, Microsoft 365, OneDrive for Business, your network filestore drives (M:, K:), MyGlasgow, Moodle, Mahara, VPN, Glasgow Anywhere Desktop, eduroam Wi-Fi, e-journals, LinkedIn Learning and Zoom.

If you have installed Microsoft Office applications on your personal devices using your student IT account, this will prompt you for activation soon after your University account closes. If you still want to use those installations of Office you will need to purchase a personal license from Microsoft.

Why does my account have to close?

Our digital licenses cover currently registered students, so we cannot continue to provide services when you are no longer officially registered to study with us.

It is not possible to extend accounts any further past the dates above, so please be sure to copy, save and back up any content you want to keep before then.

If you are working for the University, your student account will still close but you will be provided with a staff account.

How do I save my files?

  1. If you do not already have one, set up a personal email account. Free email accounts are available from many providers including Gmail, Outlook.com, Apple, etc.
  2. Save any documents and files you want to keep to your personal account or save them in cloud storage. You may consider having a backup copy of your documents and files.
  3. Remember to tell your friends and contacts that you have a new email address.

Careers, Employability & Opportunity

We hope that your time at Glasgow will serve as a great springboard for your future career! As you move on in your career journey, please remember:

  • You can access careers resources and events for up to 2 years after your course finishes
  • You can find ongoing support, resources and event information via the Careers website
  • You should continue to use your existing student account in Glasgow Careers until your university IT account expires. You should then re-register with Glasgow Careers using your non-University email address to continue your access to vacancies, events listings and personalised job alerts.

Alumni Benefits - keep in touch with UofG

Your time studying at Glasgow may be coming to an end but we hope that you have founded a relationship with your university that will last a lifetime.

When you enrol to graduate, you’ll be asked to provide us with your personal email address. We’ll use your email address to keep you informed with University news and to tell you about ways that you can stay in touch us as an ambassador, volunteer, friend or supporter. We can still contact you by post, but having your email makes it easier and greener to keep in touch.

After graduation, we’ll then contact you with information about your General Council membership and all the other opportunities available to you as an alumnus/a of the University of Glasgow.

Graduate Outcomes survey

Graduates of the University of Glasgow will be contacted approximately 15 months after they leave with an invite to take part in the Graduate Outcomes survey.  This is a nationwide survey to find out what you go on to do after you have graduated.

The survey is important because your opinions will help current and future students gain an insight into career destinations and development and the University to shape our programmes for students who are following in your footsteps.  The university will send you reminders regarding this too. The survey contacts all graduates:

  • 15 months after graduation
  • by email or phone
  • to learn about your activities and views
