Binding: Spain, 18th-century vellum, with remains of two ties;  ink title on spine “Claros varones de Castilla”;  inner folds of many leaves strengthened with paper guards.   Size:  200 x 143 mm.
Leaf size: 194 x 138 mm.
Annotations: Title on front fly leaf “Los Claros Varones dspaña fecho por hernando del pulgar dirigido a la reina nuestra señora.”;  a few 18th-century marginal notes in Spanish (many cropped by binder);  leaves a2 to i2 foliated in ink 2-64 (i.e. foliated after the volume had become imperfect);  18th-century price "-3-" in pencil on front free endpaper.
Decoration: None.
Imperfections: Wanting the two unsigned preliminary leaves and leaves e1, e8 and i3 (the last supplied in photostat in 1925 from a copy then in the possession of the London booksellers, Messrs Maggs);  tears in a1 with loss of a few letters;  large tear in i4 with loss of text.
