Provenance: Unidentified, 16th-century Italian(?) coat of arms within a laurel wreath on 1/2r, tentatively described as: a fess argent charged with a serpent(?) or, in chief vert an unidentified object gules, in base the dexter side vert an eight-pointed mullet gules, the sinister side gules an eight-pointed mullet argent.

Binding: England, 19th-century blind-tooled dark brown morocco,  gold-tooled title on spine and in centre of both covers;  gilt-edged leaves;  binder’s stamp in gilt on turn-in at foot of front board “Bound by Riviere & Son”.   Housed in a slip case.   Size:  227 x 159 mm. 
Leaf size: 223 x 153 mm. 
Annotations: Possible bookseller’s catalogue number “Nicolaus 151” in pencil on front free endpaper, together with a 19th-century price code in pencil “Pa/n/d”;  another 19th-century price code in pencil “ig/ig/-” on rear pastedown. 
Decoration: On 1/2r a six-line epigraphic initial “E” supplied in gold on a square red ground and embellished with dark grey and gold interlacing;  numerous other initials (all of two lines) supplied in alternate red and blue throughout;  unidentified coat of arms on 1/2r (see Provenance).
Imperfections: Wanting the first and final blank leaves.
