William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Askew sale for £30.0.0 according to the partially annotated copy of the Askew sale catalogue in University of Glasgow Library (shelfmark Mu36-c.8).
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate and book label on front pastedown, the latter with former shelfmark “W.6.11”.
Binding: 18th-century gold-tooled red sheep;  covers tooled to a four panel design using a triple fillet and three separate rolls, the inner panel has a diamond-shaped centre-piece composed of separate tools;  separate tools also decorate the corners and sides of the panels;  restored and given new gold-tooled spine and new marbled endpapers by Ian Maver, Sept. 1981;  binder’s note, remains of 18th-century spine and sample of previous marbled endpapers mounted onto rear pastedown;  gilt-edged leaves.   Size:  256 x 183 mm.
Leaf size: 249 x 174 mm.
Annotations: “Nota” mark on 1/10r;   sheet of paper loosely inserted containing William Hunter’s manuscript notes in which he compares the typography of this edition with that of his copy of the Fust and Schoeffer, Mainz, 1466 edition.
Decoration: Six-line initial ‘Q’ on 1/1r, six-line initial ‘Q’ on 5/1r (f. 33r), six-line initial ‘S’ (in error for ‘P’) on 7/4r (f. 52r) and six-line initial ‘A’ on 10/4v (f. 76v) supplied in red and blue with reserved white;  other initials supplied in red or blue;  most initials have manuscript guide-letters visible in brown ink;  paragraph marks supplied in alternate red and blue.
Imperfections: Wanting leaf 11/8 (f. 88).
