Section F - Resources

Most researchers start their career at the university on funding that has been obtained by a Principal Investigator (PI) or other research leader. Most usually this funding is for a defined period and initially many will rely on their PI to obtain continued funds for them. It is important that individuals take responsibility for their own career and so will need to devote time and energy to address issues around their longer term funding. This could include applying for personal fellowships or co-writing grant applications to support their future salary. It is not unheard of for researchers to experience discontinuity in their funding. If you are in this situation, or think that you may shortly be in this situation, there may be some short term funding options to assist. You should talk with your PI or your Head of School/Institute as early as possible.

This section gives information on the most common funding mechanisms used by contract researchers at the University of Glasgow.  Also provided are Frequently Asked Questions about research and links to external research websites such as RCUK, HERO, JANET and many more.  Please feel free to contact Chris MacDonald if you have any suggestions for additional resources for this section.
