HR Excellence in Research Award
Issued: Mon, 20 Dec 2010 15:38:00 GMT
The University has been awarded the 'HR excellence in research' logo from the European Commission in recognition of its commitment to supporting its researchers’ career, personal and professional development and management.
The University has received this award together with another 12 Universities this week, and is amongst only 8 universities in the Russell Group to hold this prestigious award.
This is only the second time this EC award has been made in the UK, and Glasgow is one of only 23 UK higher education institutions to have received it this year. The UK leads Europe in gaining this EC recognition as only 15 other European universities have attained the ‘HR excellence in research’ badge.
About the Award
A UK-wide process enables UK universities to gain the European Commission’s ‘HR excellence in research’ badge, which acknowledges their alignment with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for their Recruitment, through their work towards implementation of the UK Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.
The UK process enables universities that have published Concordat Implementation Plans to gain the ‘HR excellence in research’ badge. The UK approach includes future national evaluation and benchmarking to demonstrate continued progress and alignment.
The EC initiative aims to encourage a step-change in the way that universities across Europe recruit, manage and develop their researchers and the University is proud that its commitment to supporting this agenda has been recognized by the EC at this time. The University welcomes and endorses the principles of the UK Concordat and EU Charter & Code. It is strongly committed to implementing the principles and recommendations of the Concordat through continued development of an environment that recognises & supports research excellence.
Professor Steve Beaumont, Vice Principal for Research & Enterprise, said ‘This award is a tribute to all those colleagues who have contributed to understanding better the aspirations of early career researchers and have made great progress in giving them better support. There is a lot more to do but we are delighted to have received this accolade from the Commission’.
