Russell Group Benchmark Information

An analysis of research grant and contract income and the number of PGR students per academic (Research & Teaching contract) FTE across the Russell Group has been undertaken.

This analysis uses HESA data for academic year 2021/22. HESA requires Institutions to provide data by standard ‘cost centres’ and ‘subject areas’ and each institution maps their departments, schools, courses, etc. to these standard Units. This allows for analysis to be undertaken below the Institutional level to take some account of differences between disciplines.

There are two tables within the Russell Group Benchmark Data.

Table1: Grants & Research income per Academic Staff member. Shows the amount of research grants and contracts income spent in the year per academic (R&T) FTE staff member within the University of Glasgow and compares this to the Russell Group median, upper quartile and 90^th percentile.

Table2: PGR numbers supervised per Academic Staff member. Shows the overall number of PGR students per academic (R&T) FTE within the University of Glasgow and compares this to the Russell Group median and upper quartile.
