ECDP Mentoring

Mentoring within ECDP aims to provide a structured support mechanism to guide staff towards achieving their career-path aims and objectives. It is designed to help accelerate early academic career development by fostering the transfer and exchange of knowledge between academic staff who have experience and a track record of success, and early career academics who could benefit from the support of a partnership approach to professional development.

There are a range of definitions, however the ethos behind mentoring is focused on supporting and enabling the mentee to achieve their potential.

Megginson and Clutterbuck (1995) define mentoring as “off-line help by one person to another in making significant transitions in knowledge, work or thinking.”

Parsloe (1992) defines it as "to help and support people to manage their own learning in order to maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be."
