About the Hetherington research Club
The Research Club is a social club which exists to provide sustenance, socialisation and study space for mature and postgraduate students as well as all University staff. The Club opened in November 1954. The Club's services, facilities and membership have expanded greatly since its inception. We are the only facility dedicated to postgraduates and mature students in Scotland.
Services & Facilities
We are open 6 days a week, 350-odd days a year. Aside from serving food and beverages, the club provides a wide range of daily and weekly newspapers from the UK, France, Spain, Germany and the US. We also subscribe to The List, New Scientist and Q Magazine.
The club has 3 floors: main bar on the ground floor, open throughout the day and evening, the first floor bar, open at lunchtimes serving snacks, sandwiches and soups (sit in or take-away) and in the evening for all major club events, and the top floor where you will find the Belfry - a study space also used as a meeting room - and the pool room - only 50p a game for one of the best kept tables in Glasgow.
Funding for refurbishment has been applied for. Alterations to provide full disabled access to bar and catering facilities, and disabled toilet facilities have been planned, and will hopefully be in place within the next year.
In line with Scottish legislation, the Club is completely non-smoking, with a smoking area outside the building. A beer garden is planned as part of the refurbishment.
Members may plug in their laptop computers into any of the several available powerpoints dotted around the building and Wireless Internet Access is available throughout the building.
