Garscube External Landscaping Works - Associated with CVR & GLASS Projects

The University of Glasgow is undertaking major re-development of the Garscube campus.  To support the investment in the construction of the new Centre for Virology Research (CVR) and the Garscube Learning and Social Space building (GLASS) an external landscaping improvement plan has been developed.  The campus at Garscube is set within a special natural landscape on the banks of the River Kelvin and includes features such as mature and ancient woodland and the historic remains of the former Garscube House.

The external improvement plan aims to make the following enhancements to the south of the Garscube campus: -

  • Create a central public realm heart with the opportunity for socialising and outdoor events
  • Create a pedestrian-focused environment where traffic is segregated as far as possible
  • Improve connectivity and pedestrian linkages
  • Relocate and upgrade car park courts away from key pedestrian spaces
  • Enhance the campus ecological value with new landscaping and protect mature tree groups
  • Improve opportunities for recreation and outdoor teaching and learning

The Project team led by Martin Munro and Jennifer Russell are working closely with Landscape Architects Ironside Farrar and lead consultant ARUP (Civil, structural, electrical).
