Boyd Orr (Level 8) Teaching Laboratory Refurbishment CP04/808

Refurbishment of undergraduate accommodation on level 8 including full refurbishment of the three main laboratories along with associated rooms, all to provide high quality teaching accommodation for the Faculty of IBLS.  Funding was provided from the Learning Teaching Infrastructure Fund.

The design maintains the existing laboratory accommodation configuration and provides bright and airy teaching spaces throughout, all through the upgrade of finishes, benches, fume cupboards etc.  Existing building services were upgraded where possible enhancing the levels of comfort and control.

Audio Visual installation was provided with integrated control of lighting, screens and projection within each teaching space.

In order to accommodate the Faculty's teaching programme the works where carried out over two consecutive summer periods:

Phase 1 (Summer 2006) works comprised the refubishment of lab 823 - this phase was designed and project managed in-house by Estates and Buildings and completed September 2006.

Phase 2 (Summer 2007) works comprised the refurbishment of the two remaining main labs and the associated rooms within the floor.  This phase was overseen by an external design team and project managed by Estates and Buildings with completion being achieved in September 2007 in time for the new academic semester.
