Estate Development

The bulk of the Estates Development programme is implemented with the assistance of approved design team consultants. Estates Development Managers liaise between our clients and external consultants commisioned to assist with the design and implementation of capital projects. Once a project is approved, an Estates Development Manager is appointed and they will remain with the Project until completion. Estates and Buildings encourages user departments to appoint a member of staff to act as the principal or sole point of departmental contact.
Considerations in management of minor and major projects
- Promotion of the University as an international leading edge research and learning community, encouraging students and staff to fulfill their goals and aspirations in a challenging student centred learning environment.
- Compatability of design consultants with user departments needs.
- High quality design aspirations of the University and impact on the built environment of the unique and historical Campus and our neighbouring West End and cosmopolitan City Community.
- Risk analysis for time, cost, quality and health and safety.
- Environmental sustainability to add value to the University and City natural environment.
- Whole Life Costing and reflected long-term maintenance and renewal costs.
- Tendering procedures and contract procurement routes balancing quality with price.
- Promoting team working between design consultants, contractors and the University client.
