Useful Telephone Operations
Number engaged on internal call:
- R*1 - Will call you back when line is free
- R#1 - To cancel this facility
No reply on internal call:
- R*1 - Will ring back when the line has been used
- R#1 - To cancel this facility
Number engaged on external call:
- R*2 - Will save the number for you
- *2 - When you are ready to redial the saved number
To be reminded of an appointment:
- #0 - then required time
- #0 1415 - telephone will ring to alert you at 1415 hours
- #0 0920 - telephone will ring to alert you at 0920 hours
- (a maximum of 5 appointments can be preset simultaneously)
To ring another College, University or associated institution:
- 11 - then short code number
- Consult the short list in Section 3 of the internal telephone directory
To interrupt the call you are making to consult someone else on an interal line:
- R - then the extension number of person to be consulted
- R - after consultation to return to the original caller
To transfer a caller to another extension:
- R 100 - If you do NOT know the required extension, will transfer the call to the switchboard
- R - then the extension required. Please remember to introduce the caller.
- R again - if extension required is engaged, advise caller to try again.
To forward your calls to another extension from your own telephone:
- *4 - then extension required (eg to where you will be for the meeting)
- R#4 - To cancel this facility
To forward your calls to another extension from that other telephone:
- *5 then your extension number - then your extension number
- #5 - to cancel this facility
- This service can only be accessed from extensions having external dialling facilities.
