Gender equality

The University of Glasgow is committed to gender equality and aims to eradicate gender discrimination in its work, learning, teaching and research environment. We recognise that there has been sex equality legislation since 1975, however we welcome the development of the Gender Equality Duty placing the onus on us to identify areas where we need to improve our service, policies and practice.

To support our work towards gender equality the University has appointed a Gender Equality Champion from senior management, currently Professor Neal Juster (Vice-Principal for Strategy and Resources). Our Gender Equality Champion promotes and raises awareness around gender equality issues and provides feedback to the Equality and Diversity Strategy Committee, to the Principal and other senior managers.

Gender equality means the fair and equal treatment of men, women and transgender people. By ‘transgender’ we include people who choose to live in the opposite gender and those who have gone through or are going through a gender re-assignment procedure.
